About ZTTO Premium Hybrid Ceramic Bearings
ZTTO bearings feature rolling balls made of a ceramic material. The rolling balls are constructed of silicon nitride or zirconia ceramics.
Using ceramic bearings in hubs, bottom brackets, and pulleys will reduce friction. By reducing the coefficient of friction, you can accelerate faster and maintain speed with less power input.
Benefits of ceramic bearings:
- Ceramic bearings have 10% less friction than steel bearings.
- Bearings are extremely wear resistant because ceramic material is much harder than the hardest steel bearings.
- Silicon nitride balls are 60% lighter than steel balls.
- Safe operation even when using low amounts lubricant, which reduces the viscous drag friction from lubricant.
- When used with special seals and lubrication, the friction in ceramic bearings can be 20-30 times lower than steel bearings with standard friction seals and standard lubrication.
There are different types of ceramic bearings on the market, such as full ceramic bearings, steel ceramic bearings and nylon ceramic bearings. Full ceramic bearings make use of both ceramic balls and race. These bearings are impervious to corrosion and rarely require lubrication if at all. Due to the stiffness and hardness of the balls and race these bearings are noisy at high speeds. The stiffness of the ceramic makes these bearings brittle and liable to crack under load or impact. Because both ball and race are of similar hardness wear can lead to chipping at high speeds of both the balls and the race this can cause sparking. So, instead of the full ceramic bearings, the best solution for bicycle is hybrid bearings.
