This PoE tester belongs in every tool kit – great for testing PoE camera, ip phone and wifi installations.


Connect the source to your PoE switch or injector, connect the load to your Camera or Phone, wifi or other 802.3af/3at power device. The tester will display the power used, voltage available, and current flowing.

What does it do ? Use the Gen2 to test PoE cameras, VOIP phones, and WiFi installations without interrupting data flow, quickly detect and identify PoE type, measure power consumption from DC power supplies, and activate any port on an AF/AT PoE switch.

About the Detector:

This device reports via LED lights, the type of PoE that is on the Ethenet cable. With this keychain device, you can   quickly find out what PoE method is available, the approximate voltage, and pinout and polarity.
 
You can use it with passive injectors, 802.3af , 802.3at, 802.3bt with 568A, 568B or reverse PoE polarity. Mode A  and Mode B PoE is supported. If you are far from the PoE switch or injector – this device will show if a port has  power.
 
If you insert the device at the remote end of an Ethernet cable, then go back to the data closet with the PoE switch  – your PoE switch will show a pulse indicating that the detector is plugged into a port – up to 100 mtr away.

Is it able to show pse and pd?

Answer:

Yes, it shows the voltage provided by the PSE ( power sourcing equipment) and the power required by the PD ( powered device). In 802.3af or 3at systems, if there is no PD attached, you can turn on the 802.3af switch and cause a PoE switch to turn on. Or, once a PD is attached, it's negotiation profile will pass thru and will activate the switch. Then voltage will be applied and the display will operate. In passive PoE situations, voltage is present with or without a PD.

Will this work with passive poe, e.g. mikrotik or ubiquiti?

Yes, it works with passive and 802.3af automatically , in all pinout combinations

Yes it will – this device measures voltage , current and power which is voltage multiplied by current.
There are 4 basic PoE classes
Legacy which is early pre-802.11af power 
802.11af which provides up to 16 watts to the device
802.11af Enhanced power which supplies up to 19 watts to device and is sometimes called PoE+
802.11at which supplies 26W to the device and is ALSO called PoE+
The best way to distinguish between the the two POE+ designations is generally 802.11at power will be supplied at 52 volts or greater and enhanced power will be supplied at 51 volts or less.
